1. ICP is deeply involved with several initiatives involving Electronic Health Records and particularly electronic prescribing.

  • ICP services on the task force at Health-e-LA which is positioned to become the Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) for Los Angeles County.
  • ICP participates on the Long Beach Network for Health Steering Committee.

2. ICP managed a network of UPNI pharmacies who have free subscriptions to the Epocrates database. These pharmacies serve as information centers to physicians with formulary issues.

3. Asthma Project: ICP managed a network of UPNI pharmacies in collaboration with LA Care Health Plan which pays the pharmacists for Asthma Consultations both face to face and through a dual telephonic interpretation service.

4. Fotonovela: This project is collaboration with the USC School of Pharmacy, GNP, ICP and LA Care Health Plan. The Fotonovela is a comic book style bilingual booklet aimed at a low literacy primarily Spanish speaking population. Each Fotonovela focuses on a particular Disease State. e. g. Diabetes.

5. California Prison Health Care Task Force: ICP is a member of the California State Rural Prison Health Taskforce recently commissioned by the California State Rural Health Association.

6. Pharmacy Ownership Program (POPS) The future of Independent Pharmacy is reliant upon the continuing desire of pharmacy students and recent graduates to acquire their own pharmacy. The POPS program offers an opportunity to pharmacists who are five to ten years away from retiring but who have no exit strategy to meet and be matched with newly graduated pharmacists who are looking to purchase a pharmacy. ICP is creating a database of both pharmacy owners and newly graduated pharmacists. ICP will supply support in the meeting, matching and the purchase of stores on an individual bases.

7. USC Clerkship: ICP serves as a Preceptor for the Entrepreneur Pharmacy Clerkship offered by the USC School of Pharmacy.  This clerkship is designed to be a unique one-on-one experience between the student and the teacher-mentor. Upon completion of the clerkship, the students will be able to: prepare a business plan, describe the marketing plan of a pharmacy, describe various management styles, describe the organizational structure of a pharmacy, and present a business plan to a banker during a request for a business loan.
